What can diminish signal strength, however, is having the radio near things like motor controllers, which give off disgusting amounts of EM interferance because people at a certain chicken-themed company can't figure out how to electrical engineering.ĭo make sure to mount the radio as far away from interferance and as high up as possible. Ideally you won't have them running parallel to a massive cluster of 16 active talons, but it won't cause outright loss of communication. It's differential and twisted pair (like the CAN bus), so it's fairly robust to EM interferance. As far as I recall this struck almost all teams so that was probably a problem with the field, but it made me think of how critical it is for a team to be liable always active and how that might be the worst thing not only for your net ranking but also on how likely is a team to be selected, so I want the teams I mentor to have the most liably-always-running robots.Įthernet interferance is a smaller issue than people make it out to be. Also, does anyone have other important things to keep in mind in order to have as few communication errors as possible? ![]() Now, I remember that there was something there about how etheret cables should be as separated as possible from other cables and never be looped (knots, loops, etc), because it may interfere (magnetically) with other cables and with themselves. Recently I been in a lecture about avoiding problem and fixing them in the competition. TL DR how to avoid these and specifically how much this one thing matters.
